You don't have to hope she's good with your grandmother. You don't have to wonder whether she'll take over the day or disappear when it matters. And you don't have to accept that the photos will be lovely and generic, because that's just what wedding photos are.

Imagine instead that the person with the camera already knows your venue, already built the buffer into your timeline, and already has ten images planned before you walk in. Imagine getting your gallery back and immediately knowing which ones are going on the wall.

My couples tell me they never expected to feel this relaxed about the one vendor they were most nervous about.

It doesn't have to feel like a gamble

I shot my first wedding in 2016 as a favor for a coworker. One lens, no backup camera, and a marketing job I was quietly bored by. I said yes because I needed the practice and because she asked nicely. A hundred and thirty weddings later, I take fifteen a year on the New Hampshire Seacoast and wherever else you're going. My work has been featured in Ivory & Salt and The Seacoast Bride, I've photographed at nearly every venue between Portsmouth and Kennebunkport, and I'm the vendor most of my couples end up texting for reasons that have nothing to do with photography. What I actually do is give you a day you remember and ten images you'll frame, without making you choose between the two.

Hi, I'm Matisse, and I photograph weddings for people who want to actually be apart of them & want to remember how the day felt.

They're competent and warm and there is not a single one I have ever wanted to print. Nobody's crying. Nothing's framed. I look at them maybe once a year and feel a small, specific disappointment I've never quite gotten over.

When I started, I loved this work because I liked the puzzle of it. Light, timing, a room I'd never been in. I still do. But the thing that gets me out of bed now is knowing that in thirty years, someone's kid is going to find a photo of their parents on a wall and understand something about them that nobody ever said out loud.

That's the job. The rest is logistics.

My own wedding photos are fine. That's the whole problem.

The honest reason I do this

Wentworth by the Sea

Callie + Sam

“I didn't realize she'd been working the whole time. I have a photo of my dad crying that I never saw happen.”

Portsmouth

Jordan + Priya

“Ten of these are on our walls now. My mother-in-law framed three. I've never wanted to hang photos before.”

New Castle

Maeve + Tom

“We were back at cocktail hour by 5:40 and I still don't know how she did it. Nothing about the day felt rushed.”

If your reception is anywhere near the water and there's a raw bar, I will find it during dinner break. This is not negotiable and it's the only thing I ask.

I've never turned down an oyster

Nine tomato plants, four survivors, and an ongoing dispute with a groundhog that I am currently losing. I keep planting them anyway.

I'm an aggressively mediocre gardener

Same route, same turnaround, no music. It's the only hour of the day nobody can reach me and I have solved every timeline problem I've ever had somewhere around mile two.

I run the same three miles every morning
