Three weeks of coordinating outfits. A two-year-old who will not sit. Forty-five minutes of someone telling your family to say cheese while you stand at an angle you'd never stand at, holding your stomach in.

That's not what this is. I don't pose families so much as give you something to do, usually in your own kitchen, and then photograph what happens next. Your kid can be exactly as feral as your kid is. That's the part you'll want in ten years anyway.

You don't have to enjoy having your photo taken. You just have to show up.

I know what you're picturing...

75 to a 100 edited images, print release included, and a few I'll flag as worth putting on a wall.

At home in your own light, or outside somewhere you already go. No coordinating outfits for three weeks. I'll send a short note about what photographs well and then I'll stop talking about clothes.

60 to 90 minutes

Pick a season and I'll tell you what's open. Most people book four to six weeks out, and I'll ask two questions about your kids so I know what I'm walking into.

Wentworth by the Sea

Callie + Sam

“I didn't realize she'd been working the whole time. I have a photo of my dad crying that I never saw happen.”

Portsmouth

Jordan + Priya

“Ten of these are on our walls now. My mother-in-law framed three. I've never wanted to hang photos before.”

New Castle

Maeve + Tom

“We were back at cocktail hour by 5:40 and I still don't know how she did it. Nothing about the day felt rushed.”

Most of these are couples whose weddings I photographed, back three years later with a toddler and a dog who does not cooperate. Some are families I've never met. Either way it's the same sixty to ninety minutes, at home or outside, and the same principle: I'd rather have one honest photograph of your kid mid-sentence than twenty of everyone looking at me.

The light in October is worth planning around, and so is the fact that your daughter is only this age once.

60 minutes, at home, in the light you already live in. Wear what you actually wear. The best window is somewhere between thirty and thirty-six weeks, late enough to look unmistakably pregnant and early enough that you still want to be photographed.

MATERNITY sessions

recent sessions

Between thirty and thirty-six weeks. Earlier if you're carrying multiples, and email me anyway if you're outside that window because it usually still works.

Q. When should I book maternity?

Yes. Grandparents, cousins, all of it. Tell me the group size when you inquire so I can plan the time properly, and add a bit to the session length.

Q. Do you photograph extended family?

Every year or two through the young years, then whenever something changes. Most of my families are on a rhythm without ever having decided on one.

Q. How often should we do this?

Both, and I don't have a preference. At home is better with babies, toddlers, and anyone who still naps, because everything you need is already there and nobody has to be in the car. Outside is better in October.

Q. At home or outside?

Then we photograph that, and then we do something else. I've never had a session where it didn't happen at least once. It's not a problem and you don't have to apologize for it.

Q. What if my kid(s) has a  melt down?

Things you already own and your kids don't fight you about. I'll send a short note when you book. Nothing coordinated, nothing brand new, nothing anyone has to be told to stop pulling at.

Q. What should we wear?
